2024 - 2026 Scholars Send Off

31 July 2024

Celebrating our 2024 - 2026 scholars!

We were delighted to have come together for our annual reception to celebrate our selected scholars on July 13th in Charlotte Quay restaurant, Dublin.

This year we sent off four fantastic students, selected for their passion for socio-economic change and strong academic performance. These recipients will now embark on an enriching journey to complete the two-year International Baccalaureate programme, which promises to broaden their global perspective and foster lifelong learning.

Raven from Tipperary, will attend UWC Maastricht in the Netherlands; Rory from Bohermeen, Co. Meath, will travel to UWC East Africa in Tanzania; Clíona from Cork will attend UWC Changshu in China; and James from Co. Meath, will study at UWC Red Cross in Norway.

This year, the UWC Ireland National Committee had the opportunity to fund an additional scholarship with huge thanks to the generosity of Dan and Linda Kiely, founders of The Republic of Work, and the Dare to Dream Programme, funded by American philanthropist, Shelby Davis.

Aisling Hassell, Co-Chair of UWC Ireland, spoke ahead of the event about the exciting expansion of the UWC scholarship programme:

"The International Baccalaureate programme aims to provide young students with the required resources to create a brighter future for our global society – inspiring and shaping our future leaders to make meaningful contributions."

Commenting on the four scholars commencing their new academic journey, Secretary of UWC Ireland, Paul Hart, said:

"We wish Raven, Rory, Clíona, and James the best of luck in their exciting new adventure to UWC campuses across the globe. We are so excited to celebrate the achievement of the 2024 scholars, along with their families, and recognise the hard work and ambition that these four young people have shown in their applications."

We'd also like to thank UWC Alum, Conor Bereen for hosting us in the wonderful space in his restaurant, Luke Carroll, a current UWC Ireland scholar, who spoke on the day, and Sasko Lazarov of Photocall Ireland for the photos.
